Women’s Basketball Transfer News, April 2022


SMU grad transfer Kayla White (5-10 SR guard, DeSoto, TX) has landed at UT Arlington.

 UT Arlington women’s basketball head coach Shereka Wright has announced the addition of SMU transfer and former DeSoto High School standout Kayla White. White spent four seasons with the Mustangs and will be eligible to play immediately.

“We are so excited to add Kayla to the Lady Mav Family,” said Wright. “She will bring experience and another scoring punch on the perimeter for us. Her speed and ability to create shots for herself and others will add another dimension to our team. She is eager to get to campus and get to work as we continue to work for another championship here at UTA.”

White played in 91 games for the Mustangs in her four-year career, earning 71 starts. She averaged 11.7 points per game in her career, averaging double-digit marks in scoring every year. 

White was an All-American Athletic Conference third team selection in 2021-22 during her senior season at SMU. She was second on the team and ninth on the Mustangs with 13.2 points per game. White shot 39.3 percent from the field, good for fourth in The American, and became the 25th player in SMU history to score 1,000 points.

Tennessee officially announces the signing of Missouri State grad transfer Jasmine Franklin (6-1 SR forward, Fayetteville, AR).

Tennessee women’s basketball head coach Kellie Harper confirmed that she has received an SEC Grant-in-Aid (GIA) and Institutional Financial Aid Agreement (IFAA) from decorated graduate transfer Jasmine Franklin from Missouri State University.

Franklin, an explosive 6-foot-1 forward from Fayetteville, Ark., signed with Harper out of high school when Harper and husband Jon were coaching at MSU. Franklin was a freshman contributor for the Bears’ 2019 NCAA Sweet 16 run that ultimately led to the Harpers being hired at Rocky Top.

“I’m so excited to bring Jasmine Franklin into the Lady Vol family,” Harper said. “Jasmine, who has a fun-loving but very competitive personality, can score in the paint, knock down an open jumper and put the ball on the floor for drives. Her athleticism and high motor enable her to be a tremendous rebounder and defender.”

A two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference First-Team selection and the 2021 MVC Defensive Player of the Year, Franklin averaged 11.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 1.3 blocks and 1.1 assists while starting 99 of 102 games for Missouri State. The seven-time MVC Player of the Week shot 53.1 percentage from the field and 68.0 percent from the free-throw line during her time in Springfield and produced 1,122 points and 913 rebounds.

In 2021-22, Franklin led Missouri State at 14.0 points and 12.1 rebounds per game while shooting 53.8 percent from the field and 76 percent on free throws. Against five Power 5 opponents, including LSU, Virginia Tech, USC, Missouri and Oklahoma State, she put up 15.6 ppg., 14.0 rpg., 2.4 spg. and 1.6 bpg. and shot 49.2 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free-throw line. She only played in 11 contests, however, before suffering a season-ending knee injury on Dec. 21. Still, she ended her abbreviated year with seven double-doubles and nine games with double-figure rebound totals.

Cal officially announces the addition of Colorado grad transfer Sirena “Peanut” Tuitele (6-1 SR forward, Chico, CA).

The Cal women’s basketball team has added 6-foot-1 forward Sirena “Peanut” Tuitele to the roster for the 2022-23 season. Tuitele joins the Golden Bears after lettering four years at Colorado.

“Peanut had us at hello,” said head coach Charmin Smith. “From our student-athletes to our administration, every person that she met with could instantly see the leadership and experience that she will bring to our young, talented group. Peanut has the grit and competitiveness that is needed to compete in the Pac-12. She was an integral part of Colorado’s success and we know she will have a similar impact here. Most importantly, she embodies every piece of our core values and is an amazing addition to our CIRCLE.”

The Chico native returns to Northern California after playing in 110 games, including 94 starts for the Buffaloes. For her career, she averaged 7.5 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per contest while shooting 48.7 percent from the field.

This past season, she put up career-bests in minutes played (759), field goal percentage (51.5 percent), 3-point field goal percentage (33.3 percent), blocks (29), and steals (24) while leading Colorado to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in nine seasons.

Arkansas officially announces the addition of Syracuse grad transfer Christianna Carr (6-1 SR guard, Eden Prairie, MN).

Arkansas women’s basketball and Head Coach Mike Neighbors have added Christianna Carr to the Razorbacks’ talented roster as a transfer from Syracuse. With the Orange last season, Carr played in and started all 29 games scoring 11.7 points per game while adding 4.6 rebounds per game. Prior to Syracuse, she played three seasons at Kansas State averaging 11.3 points per game in her career as a Wildcat, including 15.2 as a junior in 2020-21. She was a highly touted high school recruit out of Manhattan (Kan.) HS where she was the 2018 Gatorade Player of the Year in Kansas and the No. 20 overall prospect in the nation according to Prospects Nation.
