Women’s Basketball Transfer News, April 2021


Butler grad transfer Upe Atosu (5-9 SR guard, Edo State, Nigeria) has landed at Colorado State (Mountain West).

Experience at the guard position is en route to the Colorado State women’s basketball program with the signing of Upe Atosu, a graduate transfer from Butler.

“Upe is a very talented and tough basketball player,” head coach Ryun Williams said. “She is a strong, athletic guard who can impact a game in numerous ways and will fit nicely with our productive and up-tempo style of play. Her experience and success internationally, as well as in the Big East and as a first team JuCo All-American excite us. We love the fight and competitiveness that Upe plays with and the attack mentality she brings to a game.”

The 5-foot-9 guard started 15 games, averaging 27.3 minutes per contest in her senior season with the Bulldogs in 2020-21. Her 11.1 points per game clip was third on the team and 25th in the BIG EAST Conference. Among her scoring ability is her precision from the line where she connected on 88% from the free-throw line, ranking second in the conference. Facilitating is also in her repertoire as her 3.3 assists per game was 12th in the BIG EAST. She tallied eight double-digit scoring games this past season with a career-best 23 that she dropped against Xavier on February 22nd.

Syracuse grad transfer Maeva Djaldi-Tabdi (6-2 RS JR forward, Paris, France) opts to stay within the ACC, signing with Miami (FL).

The University of Miami women’s basketball team continues to get stronger and deeper, as the Canes announced Monday the addition of redshirt junior transfer Maeva Djaldi-Tabdi. 

Djaldi-Tabdi comes to Miami after spending four seasons with the Syracuse Orange. The Paris native appeared in 89 contests for the Orange, averaging 7.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.

“Any time you get a player that not only thrives on the physicality of the inside game, but also can shoot the three and make sound decision from 21 feet, you can really run your offense through her,” head coach Katie Meier said. “Maeva is an incredibly hard worker and is willing to go the extra mile for her team.”

Arizona State officially announces the addition of Boise State transfer Jade Loville (5-10 JR wing, Sammamish, WA).

Arizona State University head women’s basketball coach Charli Turner Thorne today announced that 2021 All-Mountain West standout Jade Loville will be transferring to ASU.

Loville, a 5-10 wing who will have two years of eligibility remaining, will be transferring to ASU from Boise State where she is coming off a season in which she led the Broncos and finished second in the Mountain West in scoring (17.1 ppg). 

“We actually recruited Jade out of high school and clearly she has proven at Boise State she is a big-time scorer who can play at the highest level,” Turner Thorne said. “We are so grateful to get to be a part of her continued development. She will bring more experience to go with her tremendous skillset. We feel great about her passion to win championships and who she will be as a teammate.”

Presbyterian grad transfer Tess Santos (6-0 SR forward, Lisbon, Portugal) has signed with Denver (Summit).

 University of Denver head coach Doshia Woods announced the signing of Tess Santos for the upcoming 2021-22 season on Friday. The incoming forward will continue her academic and athletic career with the Pioneers.

“We are thrilled to add Tess to our DU family,” Woods said. “Tess brings experience, especially on the defensive side of the ball. A versatile player who has the ability to play multiple positions we’re excited she has chosen to continue her career with the Pioneers.”

Santos joins DU after spending the past four seasons at Presbyterian College. The 6-foot forward started and played in all 20 games last year, averaging a career-high 6.4 points per contest, highlighted by six games in double figures.

Pacific (WCC) inks two transfers:

  • Cecilia Holmberg, 6-2 SO wing, Bjarred, Sweden / St. John’s
  • Emily Jarrell, 6-2 FR forward/center, Sanford, FL / Utah State

The Pacific women’s basketball program has officially announced the commitment of two transfers to the university: Cecilia Holmberg (St. John’s) of Bjarred, Sweden and Emily Jarrell (Utah State) of Sanford, Florida.

“Cecilia and Emily come to us from well-coached programs and I truly feel they will both find a true fit here at Pacific both on and off the floor,” said head coach Bradley Davis. “They give us instant depth, length and experience at their respective positions… and in the classroom, both have a focused academic drive that sets them apart as student athletes.”
