Morgan State grad transfer Sydney Searcy (5-6 SR guard, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) has landed at Detroit Mercy (Horizon). She started her college career at Florida.
The University of Detroit Mercy women’s basketball team rounded out its 2021-22 roster with the addition of former Florida Gators and Morgan State Bears’ guard Sydney Searcy.
“We are excited to welcome Sydney to our Titan family,” said head coach LaTanya Collins. “Syd has great energy and has the tools to fit a few of the holes we are looking to fill for this upcoming season.”
A defensive specialist, Searcy played the last two years at Morgan State in the MEAC after playing her first two collegiate seasons at SEC power Florida.
She started all 14 games last season at Morgan State and averaged 4.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per game to go with 16 total steals. In her first season, she played in 24 games with 10 starts and tallied 2.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and came away with 30 steals.

Tulane (AAC) announces the addition of LSU grad transfer Moon Ursin (5-6 GR point guard, Destrehan, LA), who was at Baylor for four seasons before her brief stint at LSU.
The Tulane University women’s basketball team announced today the addition of Moon Ursin, who will join the team as a graduate transfer.
Ursin, a 5 foot 6 inch guard, arrives at Tulane following a decorated four-year career at Baylor where she saw action in 127 career games and scored over 700 points throughout her time in Waco, Texas.
“We could not be more excited to welcome Louisiana native, Moon Ursin to our program,” head coach Lisa Stockton said. “Her versatility and athleticism will be great assets to our team and will elevate our level of play. Our Green Wave fans will enjoy watching this dynamic guard.”
During the 2020-21 campaign, Ursin started in all 31 games for Baylor, averaged 12.6 points per game, pulled down 6.6 rebounds per game and dished out 118 assists on the year en route to earning Second Team All-Big 12 Conference honors. In 2018, Ursin was selected to the Big 12 All-Rookie team.

Detroit Mercy (Horizon) picks up UNCG grad transfer Tori Powell (5-8 guard, Durham, NC). She started her college career at LIU Brooklyn (2016-17 season).
The University of Detroit Mercy women’s basketball program has added to its 2021-22 roster with the addition of graduate transfer Tori Powell (Durham, N.C. / UNC Greensboro), it was announced by head coach LaTanya Collins.
Powell spent the last four years at UNC Greensboro, lettering in three seasons for the Spartans, starting 17 of 18 games a season ago and ranking third on the team in scoring. She played in 31 games for a Spartans team that won 23 games and reached the Southern Conference title game in 2019-20.
“We are excited to welcome Tori Powell to our Titan family,” Collins said. “Tori comes to us with extensive NCAA Division I experience and she brings much-needed leadership to our program. Tori is a high-character kid and an excellent student. Her skill sets, both on and off the court, are necessary for helping us build the positive culture we desire to have here at the University of Detroit Mercy. My staff and I look forward to watching Tori grow and seeing her positive impact here at Detroit Mercy.”

Columbus State (D-II) officially announces the addition of Auburn transfer Alycia Reese (5-9 JR shooting guard, Columbus, GA).
A former hometown prep star is back in Columbus as Columbus State University women’s basketball head coach Matt Houser announced Alycia Reese as the newest Lady Cougar for the 2021-22 season.
Reese, who graduated from Carver High School, played at Auburn University last season and appeared in 16 games. She averaged 3.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in just under 14 minutes per game. The guard scored a season-high 10 points twice, including against the University of Tennessee.
“Alycia is going to do great in the Peach Belt Conference,” commented Houser. “Her ability to play lock-up defense, hit the 3-point shot and take players off the dribble is why she was at Auburn and playing DI ball. She is a great kid on and off the court which plays into our Cougar Culture, and we are lucky to have her on the team.”

Loyola Marymount transfer Aquira DeCosta (6-0 JR wing, Sacramento, CA), who committed to Sacramento State several months ago, has now signed with Shawnee State, an NAIA school in Ohio. She started her college career at Baylor and was a 2018 McDonald’s All-American.
Throughout its history, the women’s basketball program at Shawnee State has landed significant talents.
Aquira DeCosta’s accomplishments, however, are truly otherwordly even for some of the best players to come through the SSU ranks.
The former consensus five-star recruit, who was ranked as the third-best high school girls basketball recruit in the Class of 2018 according to ESPN (98 grade) before going on to play at Baylor, will be a part of the Shawnee State women’s basketball roster for the 2021-22 season on forward.
“It’s a great opportunity,” DeCosta said. “I took this past semester off to get better mentality and just work hard on and off of the court. Now that I have things taken care of, I’m looking forward to seeing what I can get done on and off of the court here at Shawnee State. Coach (DeWayne) Burroughs is a great coach and a great man, and I’m excited to see what I can do to help this team. As a group, I believe we’re going to be prepared and ready to compete for a national championship.”

Temple (AAC) officially announces the addition of Virginia Tech transfer Destiney McPhaul (5-8 FR combo guard, Philadelphia, PA). She’ll have to sit out the 2021-22 season.
Destiney McPhaul, the 2020-21 Girls Basketball Pennsylvania AAA State Player of the Year, has signed an aid agreement to attend Temple University. The Philadelphia native and 2021 graduate of West Catholic High who originally signed a NLI to attend Virginia Tech will not be eligible to compete until the 2022-23 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
“We are so excited to welcome Destiney back home to Philadelphia and to the Temple Women’s Basketball family,” said Cardoza. “She is a prolific offensive player who cannot only score the basketball but makes others around her better. More importantly she is someone we have an established relationshipwith and will fit into the culture of our program.”
