Former Iowa State player Lauren Mills (6-2 RS SO center, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia) is transferring to Montana (Big Sky).

“The reason I decided to leave Iowa State was to seek further development for myself as a basketball player and to get a playing opportunity,” said Mills.

“Iowa State has a great program and I enjoyed my time there. The next step for me is to put everything I have learned into play. I’m so excited that I get to do that as a Lady Griz.”

Mills played in 13 games for Iowa State the last two years, totaling 13 points and six rebounds.

The game output may have been limited, but nothing else was. That’s what excites Petrino. It was the other 98 percent of the time, when Mills was going up in practice against players who make Iowa State a top-25 program year after year.

“She brings the experience of going against a nationally ranked team in practice every day the last two years,” said Petrino. “She’s looking for a chance to have more of an impact.”

Saint Mary’s (WCC) has landed Washington transfer Ali Bamberger (6-3 FR center, Concord, CA).

The “run n’ gun” style of offense the Gaels Women’s Basketball team has employed in recent seasons might see a balanced attack in the future. Announced last week, Saint Mary’s officially welcomes the addition of 6’3″ center Ali Bamberger to the Gaels family after spending her freshman season of competition at the University of Washington.

Making her collegiate debut as a Husky, Bamberger appeared in 27 games and made her first and only start for Washington on December 15 at San Diego (WCC rivals of the Gaels). She averaged 3.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game while seeing just under 14 minutes on the floor per contest. She was one of just four Huskies to record at least 10 blocks on the season, and she shined brightest in one of the biggest wins of the year. Taking on No. 8 UCLA, Bamberger scored a season-best 12 points in a 74-68 win, after scoring 10 with eight rebounds two days prior against USC.

Bamberger is not your traditional center: she can shoot the three-pointer, making her an excellent fit for head coach Paul Thomas. Of the 92 shots Bamberger took during her freshman season, 46 of them came from three-point range, where she shot 34.8% (16-46). This past season, the Gaels set program records for most three-pointers attempted (776) and made (287) while ranking 13th in the NCAA in three-point percentage (37%).

“Ali will be a great addition to our program,” head coach Paul Thomas stated about Bamberger. “As a person, she has all the qualities we look for: unselfish, caring, and driven. These are the same qualities she possesses on the court. Ali will be a great teammate for the Gaels.”

Eastern Michigan (MAC) announces the addition of FIU transfer Kylee O’Hara (6-0 SO guard, Ajax, ON).

“We are thrilled to have Kylee joining our family,” offered Castro. “She is a six-foot guard that will fit perfectly in our defensive system as well as space the floor with her shooting ability. She played over 700 minutes as a freshman and started 29 games so she comes to Ypsilanti with a great deal of experience. Kylee will be a great fit both on and off the court.”

O’Hara arrives in Ypsilanti after spending the past two seasons at Florida International University. As a freshman, she started all 29 games for the Panthers while averaging 5.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. In a career-day against Campbell, Nov. 25, 2018, O’Hara tallied a personal-best 16 points and career-best five blocks, and also added five rebounds. While only appearing in six games sophomore year due to injury, she averaged 1.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
