The Jan. 11 Maine at New Hampshire game has been postponed until Feb. 13 because of “COVID safety protocols” with the UNH program.

The America East Conference announced Tuesday that the women’s basketball game between UNH and Maine scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Lundholm Gym has been postponed due to COVID safety protocols within the Wildcat women’s basketball program. The game will be made up Monday, Feb. 13 (Time TBA).

Iowa State forward/center Stephanie Soares is out for the season with a torn ACL. She was averaging 14.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game and had tallied eight double-doubles on the season.

Iowa State women’s basketball forward/center Stephanie Soares will miss the remainder of the season, Iowa State announced Monday night. Soares tore the ACL in her left knee early in the Cyclones’ contest at Oklahoma Sunday.

“As a coach, there is nothing worse than to have a player sustain an injury that ends their season,” head coach Bill Fennelly said. “We are heartbroken for Steph, I am proud of her an the major impact that she has made on our program and Iowa State University.”

“This was not how I expected my season to end, but I am thankful for the opportunities I have gotten at Iowa State” Soares said. “I could not have done this without the support of my teammates, coaches, doctors and athletic training staff and the fans at Hilton Coliseum. I know God gives me strength to get through this challenge in my life. I look forward to being there for my teammates and helping them achieve our goals and make the most of this special season.”

UConn is back to having at least seven scholarship players available, so their Wednesday game at St. John’s is a go.

The UConn women’s basketball game at St. John’s set for this Wednesday at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y., will be played as scheduled, the programs announced Monday. The game is set to tip at 8 p.m. ET on SNY.

UConn’s game vs. DePaul slated for last Sunday was postponed as the Huskies were under the conference minimum of seven available scholarship student-athletes.

The fourth-ranked Huskies will have at least seven players available on Wednesday.

Senior guard Sydney Hilliard has decided to end her basketball career at Wisconsin to “concentrate on [her] own well-being.” She played in 78 games (67 starts) for the Badgers over her career, averaging 11.7 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 2.9 APG.

Sydney Hilliard, a senior with the Wisconsin women’s basketball program, has decided to end her basketball career with the Badgers for personal reasons.

“I have decided that it is time for me to step away from the game of basketball, so I can concentrate on my own well-being,” Hilliard said. “This was not a decision I took lightly and I am looking forward to earning my degree in the coming months and moving toward the next chapter of my life. The love and support of my family, friends, Badger teammates and coaches has meant the world to me and I’ll always be grateful to all of them.”

Hilliard, a native of Monroe, played in 78 games (67 starts) for the Badgers. She averaged 11.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game during her career.

“I have complete understanding and respect for Syd’s decision,” women’s basketball head coach Marisa Moseley said. “She is a wonderful young woman with a bright future ahead of her. I admire her for having the courage to do what she feels is best for her. We will miss her in our program but we all wish her the best moving forward. She knows she will always have our support.”
