UNLV

New head coach Lindy La Rocque announces the hiring of her three assistant coaches: Roman Owen, Mia Bell, and Nneka Enemkpali.

UNLV women’s basketball head coach Lindy La Rocque announced the hiring of her coaching staff Tuesday. Roman Owen, Mia Bell and Nneka Enemkpali will all be assistant coaches for the Lady Rebels.

All three positions were approved before the state’s hiring freeze was instituted.

“I am so excited to have Roman, his wife Natalie and their two little girls join our Lady Rebel family!” said La Rocque. “Roman brings a wealth of coaching knowledge and experience to our program, but his true strengths lie in his moral character, integrity, and personal drive to impact the lives of young people. Our program is going to immediately benefit from Roman’s compassion and basketball savvy.

“I am also thrilled to keep Mia Bell in the Lady Rebel program. As an alum, Mia’s pride for UNLV and passion for basketball is unmatched. Her work ethic and enthusiasm for growth will push our program forward. Mia’s familiarity with UNLV makes for a seamless transition, she will continue to impact our young ladies in a positive light and help them develop on and off the court.

“I am so excited about the impact that Nneka Enemkpali will have on our Lady Rebel program. Nneka is a young rising star in coaching. She is extremely motivated and energetic about continuing to learn and grow, and will be a fantastic mentor for our team.”

Omaha

New head coach Carrie Banks announces the hiring of Autumn Rademacher and Darryl Hudson as assistant coaches.

Head women’s basketball coach Carrie Banks announced the addition of Autumn Rademacher and Darryl Hudson as assistant coaches to her staff on Tuesday.

Rademacher (pronounced RAD-a-maker) joins the Maverick staff from Youngstown State, where she served as an assistant coach for the Penguins in 2019-20. She has spent every season since 1993-94 at the Division I level as either a student-athlete, assistant coach or head coach. Of those 27 seasons, 15 have come in the Horizon League, and 12 have resulted in postseason appearances. . . .

Hudson joins the Maverick staff after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Jackson State, where he helped guide the program to a SWAC regular season title in 2019-20. JSU recorded a 16-2 conference mark, achieved the best start in program history at 14-0 and had three Lady Tigers earn all-conference honors, including one named SWAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Florida

Julian Assibey has been hired as an assistant coach. He was on the Montana State staff for the last four seasons.

“Gator Nation, please join us in welcoming our new assistant coach Julian Assibey! We are very excited for Julian, Kaylee, Malachi and Elijah to join us here in Gainesville,” said Newbauer. “Julian caught my attention years ago with his natural ability to connect and engage with those around him. His energy and enthusiasm will have a positive impact in every area of our program. He is a man of high character who embodies a strong commitment to be great in all he touches or comes across which made him an ideal fit for our program.”

Assibey (PRONUNCIATION: Ahh-SEE-bay) joins the Gators after spending the previous four seasons as an assistant coach at Montana State. Before his time with the Bobcats, Assibey was with the University of Colorado from 2014-16.

“I am blessed and humbled for this opportunity. I mean the University of Florida is one of the most iconic and elite athletic institutions in the country, so having this opportunity to join Coach Newbauer’s staff is humbling and I’m honored. I’m excited to get there and to work with an unbelievable staff and group of players,” Assibey said.

Villanova

New head coach Denise Dillon has announced her staff.

Villanova University head women’s basketball coach Denise Dillon today announced her 2020-21 coaching staff. Dillon was named the fifth head coach in program history on March 25, 2020.

Longtime Wildcat assistant Joe Mullaney will remain on staff and return for his 25th season as the program’s Associate Head Coach, while Director of Basketball Operations Mimi Riley will also return.

Two newcomers to the Villanova staff will be Michelle Baker and Mary Wooley.

Detroit Mercy

AnnMarie Gilbert has been hired as the new head coach, following a five-year stint as head coach at Virginia Union (D-II).

It’s Gilbert’s fourth head coaching stop in college basketball and second in Division I as she has amassed 287 coaching wins and tallied eight-straight 20-win seasons as a head coach in 18 seasons. She has also guided teams to numerous postseason victories, including a run to the Division II National Championship game.

“Detroit Mercy is pleased to have Coach Gilbert join us and use her extensive experience to continue our tradition of academic and athletic excellence in women’s basketball and our 16 other NCAA Division I sports,” said President Antoine Garibaldi. “Over her 26 years of coaching, she has demonstrated that student-athlete success in the classroom and on the court are intertwined.”

“AnnMarie Gilbert was our first choice because of her depth of experience as a head coach at Division I, Division II and Division III and is an excellent recruiter,” Vowels said. “She has done a terrific job as head coach at Virginia Union, Eastern Michigan and Oberlin and as an assistant coach at Michigan State. Coach Gilbert and the student-athletes will strive for excellence on the court and in the classroom.”

Gilbert was highly successful in her previous position as head coach at Division II Virginia Union University, where she guided the Lady Panthers to a 135-18 record and an academic GPA of 3.3 over five seasons, including five trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament and a national title game appearance in 2017. Gilbert helped Virginia Union capture three conference championships (2016, 2018, 2019).
