News on women’s basketball transfers from D-I schools. Last update: January 27, 2019


Former Missouri player Grace Berg (6-0 FR wing, Indianola, IA) has announced that she’s transferring to Drake. As noted below, they were one of her finalists when she made her first college choice. UPDATE: Press release from Drake says, “Berg will have three seasons of eligibility at Drake,” but it doesn’t specify when her eligibility will begin.

The Drake University women’s basketball team has added former Indianola standout and University of Missouri transfer Grace Berg to the program, head coach Jennie Baranczyk announced Monday, Jan. 28. Berg will have three seasons of eligibility at Drake.

Berg, a 6-0 forward, played in 19 games for the Tigers this season, averaging 3.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 12.7 minutes per game. She scored a career-high 12 points and grabbed four rebounds in the Tigers’ win over Missouri State.

Former North Alabama player Deja Walls (6-0 FR forward, Clarksville, TN) has transferred to Trevecca Nazarene, a D-II school in Nashville, TN. She’s now listed on their 2018-19 roster and is eligible to play this semester.

Signed out of high school with the University of North Alabama, but did not play during the fall semester … transferred to Trevecca over the Christmas break and will be eligible for the spring semester

Grace Berg (6-0 FR wing, Indianola, IA) is transferring from Missouri. She was ranked #36 in the 2018 class per espnW.

The 6-foot forward has played wing for much of Missouri’s season this year. She’s played in all 19 of the Tigers’ games and started one of them, averaging 3.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 12.7 minutes per game.

The other finalists for Berg in her first recruiting go-round, according to this item, were Drake, Iowa, and Michigan State.

Former Baylor player Alexis Morris (5-6 SO point guard, Beaumont, TX) has announced that she’s transferring to Rutgers.

UPDATE (Jan. 22): The Scarlet Knights officially announce the signing of Morris. She’s a midyear transfer who will be eligible at Rutgers starting in January 2020.

Rutgers women’s basketball head coach C. Vivian Stringer has announced the signing of transfer guard Alexis Morris to the Scarlet Knights roster. A 5-6 guard from Beaumont, Texas, Morris will arrive at Rutgers with three years of eligibility remaining and be able to take the court for the Scarlet Knights in January of 2020.

“Alexis is a great player and her accolades speak for themselves,” said Stringer. “She wants to be challenged and has what you can call that ‘it’ quality and personality. Alexis blended extremely well not only with the young ladies already on the team, but just as important, her style of play fits the mold of a Rutgers guard. I think Alexis will be an outstanding teammate and a hard-working student-athlete both on the court and in the classroom.”


Lexey Tobel (5-11 SO wing, Hartland, MI) has transferred from Detroit Mercy to Rochester College, an NAIA school in Rochester, Michigan. Tobel was the leading scorer for the Titans this season, averaging 11.4 PPG over the first 14 games of the season.

Raven Farley (6-2 SO forward, Elizabeth, NJ) is no longer listed on the LSU roster, and she is transferring. She played in eight games this season, averaging 6 MPG and scoring just 4 points.

Alexis Morris (5-6 SO point guard, Beaumont, TX), dismissed from the Baylor team prior to the 2018-19 season for an unspecified violation of team rules, is now officially transferring, as her name was added to the NCAA transfer portal last week (per a source). There had been rumors that she might return to Baylor next season.

Former Lamar player Haverlynn “Lola” Bracy (5-7 SO guard, St. Louis, MO) has landed at Evansville as a midyear transfer.

Joining the Aces from Lamar University, Lola Bracy comes to Evansville after three semesters with the Cardinals. A St. Louis native, Bracy makes the move closer to home following 26 appearances at Lamar where she averaged 3.6 points per game, including a 24-point performance in 23 minutes of Lamar’s 116-37 win over Schreiner University last season.

“She’s a very aggressive player on both ends of the floor,” said Ruffing on Bracy. “She’s not shy to score and really looks to score and is someone who brings some speed to our team.”

. . . Both Bracy and Partee will be ineligible during the spring semester due to NCAA Transfer rules.

Rebekah Justice (6-5 SO forward, Cincinnati, OH) has transferred from Iona to Detroit Mercy. She’s a midyear transfer, but the UDM press release implies that she’ll be eligible for the entire 2019-20 season. She did not play for the Gaels during the 2018-19 season, and it appears she left the team before the start of the season.

The University of Detroit Mercy women’s basketball program and head coach Bernard Scott has announced the addition of Iona transfer Rebekah Justice (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mariemont HS). She played her first collegiate season with the Gaels in 2017-18 and is currently enrolled in classes at Detroit Mercy. She’ll be eligible to play for the Titans next season.

“Rebekah will give us some size that we haven’t had since I have been here,” coach Scott said. “She’s a post player that can score inside and out. She played a lot of minutes in her first season at Iona so that experience will help her and our program. Rebekah is a great addition to our program and we’re excited to have her joining our Titan Family!”

Justice, a 6-foot-5 forward, started 21 of 27 games during her freshman season at Iona, leading the team in blocks (28) and averaging 3.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game in 2017-18. She had season-highs of 15 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in a game and led the team in blocks in 15 different contests.

Former Utah player Jordan Cruz (5-11 RS FR wing, Sacramento, CA) has signed with Pacific as a midyear transfer.

The Pacific Tigers announced the addition of Jordan Cruz to the team today. She will enroll in classes this spring semester, but per NCAA transfer rules, the current redshirt freshman will sit a year before being eligible to compete.

“A set of random circumstances aligned for us to be able to add Jordan to the team this semester, and we’re fired up to be able to do so,” head coach Bradley Davis said. “Jordan is a great shooter and a tough competitor.  We recruited her hard when she was in high school, and she had visited Pacific during that time. So, when Jordan was looking to be closer to home, we were already familiar with her.  She was a winner at the high school level, and she comes to us now having spent a year and a half at a highly successful program in Utah, and playing for a coach for whom I obviously have a ton of respect.”

Cruz, who is a Sacramento native, joins the team after spending a redshirt season at Utah during the 2017-2018 season. Cruz played in nine games for the 15-1 Utes this season before electing to transfer.

Former Mount St. Mary’s player Katrina Scheuvront (6-4 RS SO center, Thornville, OH) is returning to her home state, transferring to Ursuline (D-II). She will be eligible for the 2019-20 season.

The Ursuline College basketball team announced the addition of Katrina Scheuvront for the spring semester. Scheuvront transferred from Division I Mount St. Mary’s, and will be eligible to play with the Arrows for the 2019-20 season.

Scheuvront, an Ohio native, played her high school basketball at Sheridan High School near Columbus where she was a First Team All-MWL selection, All-District 12 and Second Team All-Southwest District DII for both her junior and senior seasons. She earned All-Ohio Honorable Mention in 2016.

Former Houston player Jaidah Stewart (5-10 FR guard, St. Louis, MO) has announced that she’s transferring to St. Louis University, returning to her hometown. UPDATE: SLU press release on her addition indicates she’s a midyear transfer who “becomes eligible at semester break next season and will have three-and-a-half years of eligibility remaining.”

Jentry Holt (6-3 SR forward, Elgin, OK), who left the Oklahoma State program prior to the 2018-19 season, has grad-transferred to Oral Roberts. She will use her year of eligibility next season.

The Oral Roberts women’s basketball team and Head Coach Misti Cussen announced that Jentry Holt has joined the Golden Eagles for the spring semester as a graduate transfer from Oklahoma State University.

Although Holt is immediately eligible to compete, she will sit out the remainder of the 2018-19 season and will have a full year of eligibility for the 2019-20 season.

Campbellsville (NAIA) has landed Ole Miss transfer Bree Glover (5-10 JR forward, Glasgow, KY). Glover had been dismissed from the Ole Miss team prior to the 2018-19 season for a violation of team rules.

For just the first time in the Ginger High Colvin era, Lady Tiger basketball made a splash in the high major NCAA Division I level and landed University of Mississippi transfer Bree Glover.

Coach High Colvin announced the transfer late on Friday night as she was heading to a recruiting trip at a local high school.

Glover, a 5-foot-10 forward, is originally from Glasgow, Ky. and will have two years of eligibility remaining for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.

UMass makes the addition of Sam Breen (6-1 SO forward, Gibsonia, PA) official. She’s a midyear transfer from Penn State.

University of Massachusetts women’s basketball and head coach Tory Verdi announced on Thursday that the Minutewomen have added transfer Sam Breen, a 6-foot-1 forward from Gibsonia, Pennsylvania. Breen, who most recently competed at Penn State, appeared in 26 games during her career with the Lady Lions over the last two seasons.

Under NCAA transfer rules, Breen may practice with the Minutewomen immediately and will be eligible to play as a junior the day following the last day of classes in the Fall 2019 semester.

“We are excited to add Sam Breen to our roster,” said head coach Tory Verdi. “Sam is an agile, face-up four player with great interior footwork. Her versatility will complement the current players in our program as she will be utilized in the post and out on the perimeter. Sam will bring added depth to our front court, which is greatly needed as we continue to move our program to the next level.”

Boston College has officially announced the addition of Cameron Swartz (5-11 FR guard, Marietta, GA) as a midyear transfer from Colorado.

The Boston College women’s basketball program added mid-year transfer Cameron Swartz as announced today by Eagles head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee.

“I’m excited about the addition of Cameron to our program. She is a skilled combo-guard who will add depth to our already talented incoming class,” said head coach Bernabei-McNamee.

Swartz originally signed with Colorado. She played seven games in the first half of the season for the Buffs. Her first career point in college came off a three-pointer against Navy.

A 5-foot-11 guard from Marietta, Georgia, Swartz officially signed with Boston College this week and will begin attending classes this semester. Swartz will be eligible in January of 2020.

Ashley Hearn (6-4 SR forward, Rowlett, TX) is grad transferring from UCLA to Texas A&M. As a midyear transfer, she will be able to practice with the A&M team immediately, but she will apparently not play until the 2019-20 season. At UCLA, Hearn played during her first two years but then sat out 2017-18 with an injury. She was not on the Bruins’ 2018-19 roster.

Texas A&M women’s basketball announced the addition of UCLA graduate transfer Ashley Hearn, a McDonald’s All-American in 2015 who was the No. 4-ranked power forward by ESPN out of high school. She is enrolled for the spring semester at Texas A&M, and can begin practice with the team immediately. She will be a senior in the 2019-20 season.

“Ashley’s length, size and ability to play the 4-position gives us flexibility and depth at the high post positions,” Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair said. “She was an excellent student at UCLA who was able to graduate in three and a half years. We recruited her out of Sachse HS, but she chose to go to UCLA, where she spent two seasons backing up some great players. We are excited to add Ashley to our team.”

Hearn comes to A&M after 49 games over two seasons at UCLA. She earned Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable mention as a sophomore in 2016-17, ranking 15th in the Pac-12 with 29 blocks in 27 games, scoring 39 points and grabbing 43 rebounds for the season.

She played in 22 games as a freshman in 2015-16, finishing the season with 27 rebounds and 12 blocks. Hearn missed the 2017-18 season due to injury.

Former North Dakota State player Reilly Jacobson (6-2 JR forward, Waukee, IA) is transferring to Western Michigan. Press release states that she “will be eligible to play for the Broncos next season.” That’s a bit ambiguous, but given that she did not play at all for NDSU this season, presumably she’ll be eligible in the fall.

Western Michigan women’s basketball head coach Shane Clipfell announced the addition of transfer Reilly Jacobson on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Jacobson, who is enrolled at Western Michigan for the spring semester, played her first two seasons at North Dakota State University and will be eligible to play for the Broncos next season.

A 6’2 forward from Waukee, Iowa, Jacobson led the Bison in 2017-18 with 11.6 points per game as well as 6.7 rebounds per game while earning Honorable Mention All-Summit League honors. She played in all but two contests for NDSU last season, making 13 starts in 27 games played. In 18 games, Jacobson scored in double figures while leading the team with three double-doubles. Jacobson turned in a team-high 129 made field goals, shooting 45.3 percent from the field while also leading the Bison at the charity stripe, going 53-for-63 at the free throw line.

Former Mississippi State player Jacaira “Iggy” Allen (5-10 RS SO guard, Pompano Beach, FL) has signed with Miami (FL) as a midyear transfer.

University of Miami head women’s basketball coach Katie Meier announced Monday the signing of Jacaira Allen, a transfer from Mississippi State.

A 5-foot, 10-inch guard, Allen joins the Hurricanes as a midyear enrollee and will be eligible to begin competition after the 2019 fall semester, at which point she will be a redshirt junior.

“We are excited to welcome ‘Iggy’ back home,” Meier said. “The experience she brings from a great program, Mississippi State, will make us better. We’ve always loved her athleticism, grit and high motor. We look forward to seeing her in orange and green.”

Here’s official word on a previously reported transfer: former Virginia Tech player Shaniya Jones (5-7 FR guard, High Point, NC) signing with Georgia. The press release also clarifies that she is a midyear transfer who will not be eligible until after the fall 2019 semester.

Shaniya Jones, a freshman point guard from High Point, North Carolina, has decided to join the University of Georgia Lady Bulldogs basketball program, head coach Joni Taylor announced on Monday.

Jones, who was a four-star guard in the 2018 class according to ESPNW, transfers to Georgia from Virginia Tech, where she played in five games this past fall. Jones will sit out the 2019 spring and fall semesters and will be eligible to play at the conclusion of the 2019 fall term as a sophomore.

“We are thrilled that Shaniya is joining the Lady Bulldog family,” Taylor said. “We recruited her out of high school and have always known she is a special player. Shaniya is someone who can score at all three levels and will be a perfect fit with our program. We are excited to have her on campus and can’t wait to help her get acclimated this semester.”

Former Alabama A&M player Aubriana Bonner (5-8 SO shooting guard, Augusta, GA) has transferred to Johnson C. Smith University, a D-II school in Charlotte, North Carolina (see roster). She played in her first game for the Golden Bulls on January 2, scoring two points and grabbing seven rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.

Marcella Lamark dos Santos (6-4 JR center, São Paulo, Brazil) has transferred from Texas Tech to Pitt. She’s a midyear transfer with a year and a half of eligibility after the first semester of the 2019-20 season.

Marcella Lamark dos Santos, a 6-4 center from Sao Paulo, Brazil, has joined the University of Pittsburgh women’s basketball team, Panthers first-year head coach Lance White announced on Friday. Lamark dos Santos will have a year and a half of eligibility remaining as she will be able to begin competition for the Panthers following the first semester of the 2019-20 campaign.

“We are very excited to add Marcella to our basketball team,” said White. “She adds much needed size to our front court and her ability to shoot and pass the basketball make her an asset in the next phase of our growth as a program.”

Lamark dos Santos spent the fall semester at Texas Tech where she didn’t see action in any games after two successful seasons at the College of Central Florida. She was a very high-touted junior college transfer coming from the College of Central Florida as she received offers from Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
