2020 Class: Recruiting News/Updates, February 2019

Coverage of the women’s basketball 2020 recruiting class: offers, commitments, decommitments, unofficial visits, recruiting updates from news sites and other sources, etc. Items listed in reverse chronological order.

Kate Bullman, 6-1 W, Grayslake Central HS (IL): An article reporting an all-county team lists Bullman’s offers (or at least some of them).

“Teams key their defense to stopping her, but she is such a good all-around player that she can dominate without scoring 20 points a game,” Ikenn said of his repeat all-area and All-Northern Lake County Conference First Team selection. “She is a great on-the-ball defender both on the perimeter and inside.” Bullman averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3.3 steals and 2 assists per game. Her D-I offers include Davidson, George Washington, Northern Illinois, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, Bradley, Eastern Illinois and Saint Louis.

Ella Gilbertson, 6-0 W, Lake Zurich HS (IL): Same article as above says that “numerous mid-major colleges are looking at” Gilbertson, although she does not yet have an offer.

She scored in double digits in 25 of 31 games, finishing as the Bears’ leading scorer, “all while guarding the other team’s best player night in and night out,” Bennett said. The three-year varsity starter is a first-time all-area and all-North Suburban Conference selection. “She can play anywhere from 1-5,” Bennett said. “Numerous mid-major colleges are looking at her. She has not received an offer yet, but someone is going to get a heck of a player that is still growing her game in a number of directions, from long range to off the bounce to post play.”

Sydney Parrish, 6-1 W, Hamilton Southeastern HS (IN): espnW is out with a feature on Parrish. Nothing new on her recruiting is included. She narrowed her list to seven schools last month: UCLA, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Oregon, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The recruitment of Sydney Parrish began when she was in eighth grade as college coaches started coming to her junior high games in droves.

Home visits from college coaches will begin in the coming weeks, and Parrish will be paying close attention for more reasons than just the obvious.

Parrish wants to be a college basketball coach whenever she is done as a player.

Brooklyn Jones, 5-7 G, Allerdice HS (Pittsburgh, PA): This article mentions that Jones has an offer from Niagara and interest from Duquesne.

Treasure Coleman, 5-5 G, Berkshire School (Sheffield, MA): committed to Brown (Ivy), over Iona and West Virginia, among others. Her hometown is Waterbury, Connecticut.

After sifting through scholarship offers from schools like Iona, West Virginia and others, Coleman chose the Ivy League.

“I thought it would give me the best opportunity after I get out of school,” added Coleman, who hopes to pursue a career in medicine, perhaps nursing.

Mariam Traore, 5-10 PG, Massanutten Military Academy (Woodstock, VA): A Northern Virginia Daily feature on Traore notes that she has offers from Iowa State, Kansas, and West Virginia and interest from Maryland and NC State. She’s originally from Mali.

There should be plenty of college coaches looking at Traore this summer. Bryant said Traore already has offers to play college basketball at West Virginia University, the University of Kansas and Iowa State University, which is a Top 25 ranked team. Bryant said that there are many other schools, including Top 25 schools such as the University of Maryland and North Carolina State University who have shown interest in Traore.

Ella Collier, 5-11 SG/W, Danville HS (IN): A Hendricks County Flyer article notes that Collier has offers from Old Dominion, Florida International, Maryville, UT Martin, and Richmond.

(2/26/2019)

Kristy Hamze, 5-6 G, Trinity Episcopal HS (Richmond, VA): picked up her first D-I offer, from Western Carolina.

(2/26/2019)

Madison Hayes, 6-0 G, East Hamilton HS (Ooltewah, TN): landed an offer from Mississippi State. This article from earlier this month listed her previous 24 offers. Hayes is ranked in the top 50 in the 2020 recruiting class.

(2/26/2019)

Paige Rocca, 5-8 CG, Iowa City HS (IA): A feature article on Rocca notes that she has an offer from Northern Illinois.

As a junior Rocca has seen her role expand yet still is overshadowed by perhaps the best guard combo in the state.

Rocca enters the state tournament average a career-best 9.8 points per game and has become a strong solid option when defenses key on Joens or Nkumu.

She holds a scholarship offer from Northern Illinois and is hearing from other colleges.

“I’ve really worked to improve this season and I talked to my coaches about how much improvement I have made,” Rocca said. “My coaches have really helped me get better.”

Ashley Chevalier, 5-7 PG, Sierra Canyon School (Chatsworth, CA): announced her commitment to Texas. She’s the second 2020 commit for the Longhorns. Shay Holle, 5-11 W, Westlake HS (Austin, TX), committed earlier this month. The Los Angeles Times ran a feature on Chevalier a couple of weeks ago.

(2/24/2019)

Lindsay Blackmore, 6-0 F, Geneva HS (IL): announced her commitment to Colgate, becoming the first 2020 commit for the Patriot League school. The Chicago Tribune ran a feature on her in November 2018.
