Grace VanSlooten, 6-1 W, Toledo Notre Dame Academy (OH): a Toledo Blade feature on VanSlooten provides a rundown of the offers that she picked up in May, June, and July, which increased the count to 27 from D-I schools. Among her earlier offers are Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Iowa, and Ohio State.

In May, offers came from Tennessee, Purdue, West Virgina, and Marquette. June brought Illinois, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Louisville, DePaul, and Northwestern on board.

In July so far, Arizona, Dayton, Clemson, Kentucky, Florida, Boston College, and Virginia Tech have offered.

“It’s flattering, and she’s handling it very well,” said Jon VanSlooten, Grace’s father, who was a backup football quarterback under coach Jack Harbaugh at Western Michigan (1983-86). “She realizes she’s got a long way to go until she’s at that next level, and she just needs to keep working hard.

“When the time is right, as a family, we’ll make a decision of what we think is best as far as the next step.”

She received her first Division 1 scholarship offer from Arkansas State in May. Over the past week, Washenitz netted a pair of Power 5 conference offers. The first came from West Virginia University after a conversation with head coach Mike Carey.

“We talked for a little bit and then he decided to offer me and I was really ecstatic. I was speechless. I didn’t know what to think. It has always been a dream of mine to get an offer from my home state.”

“I am really proud because I know my parents have been waiting for this moment as well.”

Two days later, Washenitz received her second offer from a major conference school — Virginia Tech.
