Coverage of the women’s basketball 2021 recruiting class: offers, commitments, decommitments, unofficial visits, recruiting updates from news sites and other sources, etc. Items listed in reverse chronological order.
Anaya Barney, 5-10 G/W, Cedar Falls HS (IA): The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier with an article on Barney’s recent commitment to Northern Iowa (MVC), already their third in the 2021 class.
While Barney recently received interest from the Big Ten’s Nebraska and had offers from South Dakota State and Colgate, she decided the opportunity to compete alongside her sister within a program that has always felt like family was too good to pass up.
“When I was younger it was something I really, really wanted to do,” said Barney, who grew up attending Warren’s UNI camps and dreaming of one day playing for the Panthers. “Towards the end I didn’t know for sure if that’s where I wanted to be, because I didn’t know if I wanted to make my own path for myself somewhere else or if I wanted to go there (to UNI) and make my own path.
“I realized even if I didn’t go somewhere else and I stayed in the same place everyone else went, I was still able to make my own name for myself in the same program.”
Mackenzie Egger, 5-10 PG, Mount Pleasant HS (MI): committed to the application process at Yale (Ivy), just one day after being offered by them.
A feature from the Lincoln Journal Star on Allison Weidner, 5-9 PG, St. Francis HS (Humphrey, NE), who has an offer from South Dakota and interest from several other schools.
The 5-foot-9 Weidner is picking up interest along the way. She received her first Division I offer, from South Dakota, in May. She also has heard from North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Creighton, and Nebraska and Minnesota have reached out.
Sydney Jaynes, 6-3 F, Trinity Lutheran HS (Seymour, IN): The Seymour Tribune provides a feature on Jaynes, who picked up her first offers—five of them—in May and June.
Since the third weekend in May, she has received offers from Murray State University, Purdue University Fort Wayne, Bradley University, University of Toledo and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
