Kaupu visited UC Irvine last week with her mother, Marie.

“UC Irvine offered me back when I was with Team Aloha (last spring),” she said. “I was talking to the Coach Tamara (Inoue) after we came home. I went to the campus and they made me feel like home, like family. The campus is beautiful. The teammates are great people. I love the coaching staff. Aaliyah McQueen, 5-8 G, Flint Carman-Ainsworth HS (MI): an MLive.com article on McQueen’s recent commitment to Illinois gives an indication of the other schools she was considering.

She chose Illinois from about 20 schools that were recruiting her. Others that she strongly considered included Dayton, Minnesota, Marquette, Toledo and Cincinnati.

“It’s a good school,” McQueen said. ” It’s very community engaged and it’s not far from my home. Just the fact that they showed how much they wanted me and they treated me like I was one of their children” played into the decision.

Peyton McDaniel, 6-0 SG, Twin Valley HS (Elverson, PA): committed to James Madison (CAA), their third 2020 commit this month.

UPDATE: McDaniel chose JMU over Drexel and Villanova, according to a Reading Eagle article.

Twin Valley’s rising senior was down to James Madison, Villanova and Drexel by the end of July.

James Madison, led by coach Sean O’Regan, won the recruiting battle.

“It was definitely a really hard decision,” McDaniel said. “One of my main things was the development piece. The way ‘Coach O’ and his staff develop players was intriguing. That and the people there broke the tie, I guess.”
