Caitlin McGee, 6-1 F, Sandalwood HS (Jacksonville, FL): Just days after announcing her five finalists, McGee committed to Ole Miss during her first official visit. The others finalists were Auburn, Miami (FL), North Carolina, and Wisconsin.

Ole Miss had an inside track for the coveted McGee, who has known head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin since an early age. McPhee-McCuin was the head coach at Jacksonville University in McGee’s hometown before arriving to Ole Miss prior to last season.

“I’ve known Coach Yo’ since I was 12 years old,” said McGee. “She was the first coach to ever show any interest in me. It’s really encouraging when someone believes in you when you’re that young and that just really stuck with me from the time she was at JU through the time she went to Ole Miss.

“As I got older and I got better at the game, she noticed. She paid attention.”

McGee is the Rebels’ third 2020 commit, joining:

  • Jacorriah Bracey, 5-11 SG/W, Ruleville Central HS (MS)
  • Silentianna “Snudda” Collins, 6-0 W, Brookhaven HS (MS)

Yvonne Ejim, 6-0 F, Bishop Carroll HS (Calgary, Alberta): committed to Gonzaga (WCC), over Iowa State (she’s the sister of Melvin Ejim, who played at Iowa State). She is the first commit for the Bulldogs in the 2020 class.

Rhyle McKinney, 5-9 SG, Argyle HS (TX): committed to SMU (AAC), their first 2020 commit.

“I chose SMU because I felt when I first got there that it was exactly what I wanted,” McKinney said. “There was so much there that made me feel at home. Being close to home was important, and that is one of the main reasons why I chose this school. I wanted to be close to home, and I’m very happy my friends and family can come watch me.”

Niya Fields, 5-7 PG, Putnam Science Academy (CT-2020): was offered by Norfolk State. Her hometown is Peekskill, New York.

Bridget Froehlke, 5-8 SG, Wrightstown HS (WI): announced her commitment to UMKC (WAC). She is the second 2020 commit for the Kangaroos, joining Katera Mayfield, 6-1 F, Seaman HS (Topeka, KS).

UPDATE: excerpt from a Green Bay Press Gazette article on her commitment:

Froehlke also had an offer from Division II Northern Michigan and likely could have received more this summer.

She is a risk-taker and was wondering what else might be out there, but she realized UMKC had it all. If another player happened to commit before she did and there wasn’t a spot left for her, she would have been devastated.

It was the best sign she had found her future home.

Froehlke liked that Hoyt is the daughter of a basketball coach. She can relate. Her father, Mike, is her coach at Wrightstown. Hoyt’s mother, Shelly, is a legendary prep coach in Kansas who once led her Hoxie team to a record 107 straight wins and four straight state championships.

“That played a huge factor,” Froehlke said. “Her background is very similar to mine. I also, as of right now, am looking to go into coaching. I know she has a lot of connections to that. She can help me get to a spot I’d like in the future.”
