Lester Rowe joins the Northern Kentucky staff as an assistant coach after eight years on the staff at West Virginia.
Northern Kentucky women’s basketball head coach Camryn Whitaker announced the addition of Lester Rowe, who was a standout student-athlete at West Virginia before joining the coaching staffs of both the Mountaineers’ men’s and women’s programs.
“I’m thrilled to be able to join the Northern Kentucky University family, and the women’s basketball program in particular,” said Rowe. “There’s no doubt in my mind that this program is capable of taking big strides and doing great things, and I’m excited to work with Coach Whitaker and the rest of the staff and program in reaching our goals. I also want to thank Director of Athletics Ken Bothof and the rest of the administration for valuable insight and leadership through the process of learning all that Northern Kentucky University has to offer.”
Whitaker added, “We are thrilled to add Coach Rowe to our NKU family! His experience and knowledge, both as a former collegiate athlete and long-time assistant at a high level, is going to have an immediate impact in our program. Lester is an excellent coach, but an even better person, and we are excited that he and his family decided to join us!”

Memphis has hired an outside firm to investigate complaints by former players regarding the culture of the women’s basketball program under head coach Melissa McFerrin.
A summary of player responses after last season notes five instances where players alleged McFerrin or her staff made racially insensitive remarks, and two incidents where McFerrin allegedly hit or shoved a player. Names of players were redacted from the summary of responses.
In addition, some player surveys over the last two years mention that McFerrin does not communicate well with the team, and provide examples where she used vulgar terms toward a player.
One response from the summary dated March 27, 2019, notes that the team even considered quitting in the middle of the season in order to get the attention of the administration.

Two new assistant coaches announced at Cornell: Claire Mattox (formerly on the Vassar staff) and Joe Rutigliano (previously a graduate assistant at St. Francis [Pa.]).

Pepperdine has named its new head women’s basketball coach: Kristen Dowling, a former assistant at the school who was the head coach at D-III Claremont-Mudd-Scripps the last seven seasons.
Former Pepperdine women’s basketball assistant coach Kristen Dowling, who has had a tremendously successful run at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps the past seven years, will return to Malibu as the eighth head coach in program history, the University announced today.
“Pepperdine Athletics exists to further our institution’s Christian mission, to provide an enriching, rewarding experience for our student-athletes that results in graduation, and to compete for championships,” Pepperdine Director of Athletics Dr. Steve Potts said. “Kristen Dowling gives us a perfect fit for those objectives. She brings a strong Christian faith, a true commitment to our student-athlete’s well-being as a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Redlands, and is dedicated to building a championship-caliber women’s basketball program. We are excited to have Kristen leading our women’s basketball program for many years to come.”
Dowling posted a 147-46 (.762) record as the head coach of the Division III Athenas, including six straight 20-win seasons and at least a share of six consecutive SCIAC regular-season championships. Her squads won the SCIAC Tournament four consecutive years between 2014 and 2017 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament each time.

Lindsay Edmonds has been promoted to associate head coach on the North Carolina State staff.
NC State women’s basketball Head Coach Wes Moore announced Wednesday that Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator Lindsay Edmonds has been promoted to the role of Associate Head Coach on the team’s coaching staff.
“Lindsay’s role in our program has continued to grow and along with that she has taken on more responsibilities,” Moore said. “Each year I have been more and more impressed with how well she can handle doing so many different things. As Associate Head Coach, she will continue to be our Recruiting Coordinator and will oversee many other aspects of our program as we continue to build something special.”
Edmonds recently completed her sixth season with the Wolfpack as an assistant coach and has been part of Moore’s coaching staff for each of his six seasons in Raleigh. Together, they have helped the Wolfpack achieve a 140-58 record (63-33 in Atlantic Coast Conference games), four NCAA Tournament appearances, and two appearances in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 (2018 and 2019).

Hillary Carlson has been added to the Air Force staff as an assistant coach after two seasons on the staff at Central Washington.
Air Force women’s basketball head coach Chris Gobrecht has announced the addition of Hillary Carlson to the women’s hoops staff. Carlson, who spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Central Washington University, will be replacing former assistant coach Clare Fitzpatrick who took on an assistant coach role with Holy Cross.
“We are thrilled to add Hillary Carlson to our outstanding coaching staff,” exclaimed Chris Gobrecht. “She is a perfect fit for the Academy as she embodies the qualities of integrity, service, and hard work that are so important here.”

Green Bay announces the addition of Clyde Manns to the staff as an assistant coach. He was on the Rhode Island staff last season.
Head coach Kevin Borseth announced the addition of Clyde Manns to the women’s basketball staff on Wednesday morning. Manns, who spent last season with Rhode Island as an assistant coach working with the team’s guards, brings nearly two decades of coaching experience to the Phoenix staff. Prior to his arrival at Rhode Island, he served as an assistant coach at Valparaiso.
“We are very excited to have Clyde join our team,” coach Borseth said. “Clyde worked for and with two very good coaches and friends of mine and comes highly recommended. His energy and dedication will make for a very good addition to our program.”

Radford announces two staff changes: the hiring of Chrystal Starling as an assistant coach and promotion of Carlie Clary to director of operations
Radford women’s basketball head coach Mike McGuire announced the addition of Chrystal Starling to the coaching staff and the promotion of Carlie Clary to Director of Operations on Wednesday morning.
“I’m excited to welcome Chrystal Starling to our women’s basketball staff,” McGuire said. “I’ve been familiar with Chrystal for a long time beginning when we worked camps together at Virginia Tech in the late 90’s. Chrystal has an extensive playing experience and has been coaching for 13 years at various levels. I love her teaching background and that will translate to helping our team grow on and off the court. Chrystal has a lot of potential as a collegiate basketball coach.”
Prior to joining McGuire’s staff, Starling served as an assistant girls varsity coach for The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York since 2017. She helped guide the Panthers to a 17-6 record and the schools first state championship in the 2018-19 season. Along with her time at The Masters School she has coached the Junior Knicks Basketball Team since 2018. Starling also coached the Empire State Blue Flames Girls AAU Club Basketball program beginning in March 2018.
