2020 Class: Recruiting News/Updates, January 2019

Sitori Tanin, 6-2 F, Middleton HS (WI): A Wisconsin State Journal article mentions Tanin’s six D-I offers.

Tanin, who’s been leading Middleton in scoring and rebounding this season, said she has offers from Drake University, Montana State, North Dakota State, Bradley, Eastern Illinois and Northern Colorado.

“She’s a good player, a good passer,” Will Green said. “She’s under control for a big man. … Experienced players make plays.”

Tess Myers, 5-10 G, North Catholic HS (Cranberry Twp., PA): received an offer from La Salle. She received three offers previously, over the course of 2018, from Niagara, Kent State, and Charlotte. She is the younger sister of Natalie Myers, who currently is a junior on the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (D-II) basketball team, transferring there after two years at Youngstown State.

Nan Garcia, 6-1 F, Jeffersonville HS (IN): Feature article on Garcia states that she has eight offers, but she reportedly also has an offer from Southern Illinois (in addition to SIUE).

Garcia, who has offers from Cincinnati, Indiana State, Xavier, Wright State, IUPUI, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Ball State and Northern Kentucky, is averaging 19.1 points, while posting solid marks of 34 percent from 3-point range and 73 percent from the free-throw line. Her 8.8 rebounding average leads the Hoosier Hills Conference. She has made big strides in expanding her perimeter game in the past year. She’s a matchup nightmare for post players because of her athleticism and ability to attack the rim from the high post.

“I’ve improved on my shooting. I’m just going out there every single day to take it to the next level,” Garcia said. “I’m working my body and working myself to hopefully help us win a sectional championship this year.”

Thayne, a Times Union small-school first-team selection in 2018, received her first Division I scholarship offer from University at Albany coach Colleen Mullen on Dec. 4.

“It is a dream come true,” Thayne said. “Now that (Division I college coaches) are watching, it is a weight off of my shoulders.”

Thayne is not only an outstanding low-post scorer, but also has shown a deft shooting touch from mid-range and even the 3-point line — knocking down 10 3-pointers. She is shooting 87.9 percent (29-for-33) from the foul line.
