Tennessee signee Emily Saunders says she is sticking with her commitment in the wake of Holly Warlick‘s departure. Saunder is a 6-4 center out of Wyoming East HS (New Richmond, WV).

“At first I was in shock because Holly was the one that recruited me and I had built a really good relationship with the coaching staff and we are all very close.” Saunders said. “Holly came down on a home visit and offered me. She was very involved in my recruiting.”

For some players, the first thought after news of that magnitude would be to seek a transfer. Saunders never wavered in her commitment to Tennessee.

“No, never at all,” Saunders said when asked about any thoughts of a transfer. “I have worked really hard to get this opportunity and no matter what, (Tennessee) is where I want to be. The school suits me and I have really good relationships with the girls on the team.”

Jenna Jordan, 6-1 C, Saddle River Day School (NJ): announced that she was reopening her recruitment. She had signed with LIU Brooklyn in the fall, but that school is apparently changing coaches, although there’s been no official press release from the school. The athletic programs of LIU Brooklyn and LIU Post are also in the process of merging, which Jordan cited as another factor in her decision.

The Rebels inked four players during the early signing period.

Signing with Ole Miss are junior college post player Dominique Banks (Atlanta, Ga./Gulf Coast State CC), wing Sarah Dumitrescu (Bucharest, Romania / IMG Academy), post Tai-Yanna Jackson (East Chicago, Ind./East Chicago Central HS) and junior college point guard Valerie Nesbitt (Nassau, Bahamas/Chipola College).

Abbe Laurence, 6-1 C, Portsmouth HS (NH): announced her commitment to Maine (America East).

(3/18/2019)

UPDATE (3/19): Laurence chose Maine over Brown and Manhattan, according to a Portsmouth Herald article.

Laurence, a 6-foot-2 senior standout, has accepted a full scholarship to play basketball at Maine starting next season. She chose that program over two other offers she’d recently received from Brown and Manhattan. The offer from Brown, an Ivy League program, would have been comprised of a spot on the team and financial aid.

″(Maine) was a very community-based, family-oriented school,” she said. “My four years at Portsmouth, we were always known to be a close team. We called (coach Tim Hopley) our second father.

“Basketball’s completely a family sport and that’s the vibe I got at Maine.”

Jessie Rennie, 5-8 shooting guard out of Kangaroo Flat, Victoria, Australia: committed to Tennessee. A highlight video posted earlier this year is here.

The Lady Vols signed three 2019 prospects during the early signing period: Jordan Horston, Tamari Key, and Emily Saunders.
