2019 Class: Recruiting News/Updates, August 2019

St. Bonaventure (A-10) announces the signing of Jurnee President, a 5-10 juco transfer guard out of New Mexico JC. She hails from Fort Worth, Texas.

Jurnee President, a 5-10 guard from Fort Worth, Texas, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend St. Bonaventure University, Bonnies head coach Jesse Fleming announced. President will be a junior with two seasons of eligibility.

President, who will be eligible for the 2019-20 season, spent the last two seasons at New Mexico Junior College, helping her team compile a record of 59-10 over the two-year span. As a sophomore, she started in all 35 games, averaging 9.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while helping the Thunderbirds to a National Junior College Athletics Association Division I National Tournament berth and the National Championship Game. She shot 89 percent at the foul line and sank 54 3s during her sophomore season. New Mexico Junior College was ranked No. 1 in the first NJCAA Division I Top 25 poll of the season and spent several weeks ranked in the top 10.

Adela Smutna, a 6-0 forward out of Hranice, Czech Republic, has signed with Northwest College, a juco in Powell, Wyoming. She reportedly “was heavily recruited by several four-year programs.”

Levett had heard through sources that Smutna was fielding offers from schools in the Pac-12, the Big East and “a bunch of mid-major programs.” With that much interest, Levett didn’t like his chances, but the second-year coach is nothing if not persistent.

“We went a couple of months without talking, and I hit her [Smutna] up again,” he said. “Her agent basically just said, ‘Hey, you know what? If you send us an offer, we check you guys out, we’ll sign it and send it back.’ I got our AD to sign the letter of intent, I went and found President [Stefani] Hicswa and she signed it. We sent it, Adela signed it, sent it back. It all really took place in one day, when we got down to it. It was crazy.”

As for what sold Smutna on NWC, Levett said the style of basketball the team likes to play, coupled with an international program that’s second-to-none in the state of Wyoming, was too good for the talented player to pass up.

Niagara (MAAC) announces an addition to their 2019 recruiting class: Angel Parker, 5-5 G, Cardinal O’Hara HS (Tonawanda, NY). She originally signed with Siena but later received her NLI release from them.

“We are excited to add Angel to our Purple Eagle family,” said Pierce. “She is not only a really good basketball player, but she is a terrific person. Angel is one of the toughest competitors on and off the court, which is why she excelled in the classroom at nearby Cardinal O’Hara High School.”
