Rebecca McMakin, 5-10 F, Ocean Lakes HS (Virginia Beach, VA): signed with Longwood (Big South).

Taniyah Thompson, 5-10 G, Hamden HS (CT): committed to East Carolina (AAC). She had originally signed with Rhode Island but reopened her recruitment following the coaching change there.

Jala Johnson, 5-8 PG, Toledo Notre Dame Academy (OH): official signed with Loyola Chicago (MVC).

Loyola University Chicago head women’s basketball coach Kate Achter announced the signing of Jala Johnson (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) to a National Letter of Intent on Friday.

“Jala is a competitor through and through,” Achter said.  “Basketball is in her blood.  She is a proven winner, much like her counterparts in this 2019 class, and she comes from one of the most respected basketball schools in the state of Ohio.”

Aniya Walker, 6-2 W, Ambridge HS (PA): has signed with Western Michigan (MAC). She had originally committed to St. Francis (Pa.) but reopened her recruitment a couple of months ago.

Walker joins Ashley Konkle, Sydney Shafer, and Taylor Williams, who signed NLI’s during the early signing period in November. All four will be eligible to compete for the Brown & Gold starting in the 2019-20 season.

Alabama adds a fourth signee to its 2019 recruiting class: Ahriahna Grizzle, a 5-9 guard hailing from Toronto.

“Ahri brings size, leadership and strength at the guard position, ” said Curry. “She brings a great competitive spirit and a high level of experience from high school and the many opportunities she’s had competing on the national stage.”

During her career, Grizzle has put up strong numbers after averaging 13.6 points, 5.6 assists, four rebounds and 3.7 steals per contest. She also shot 39 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from behind the three-point line. Grizzle is a Canadian National Champion after leading Team Ontario to a gold medal back in 2014. In 2018, she led her team to a JUEL Provencial Championship as the squad finished a perfect 23-0.

Destiny Strother, 5-9 SG, Flint Carman-Ainsworth HS (MI): has reopened her recruitment following the coaching change at Marquette. She had signed with the Golden Eagles during the early signing period.
