Michigan
November 1, 2018: Junior wing Akienreh Johnson will miss the opening games of the 2018-19 season after breaking a bone in her non-shooting hand. She may be back for the team’s Thanksgiving trip to the Gulf Coast Showcase. Johnson was expected to be a key player in the Wolverines’ rotation after coming on late last season, scoring in double digits in three of the final six games.
November 23, 2018: As expected, Akienreh Johnson returned to the court for the Gulf Coast Showcase, scoring 2 points and grabbing 5 rebounds in 11 minutes of action, in the Wolverines’ 70-54 victory over #21-ranked Missouri.
December 15, 2018: Senior starting center Hallie Thome played just 2 minutes in today’s victory over Morgan State. Second-straight game in which back spasms have severely limited her time on the floor.
January 27, 2019: Senior guard and team captain Nicole Munger left the Michigan State game in the first quarter with an ankle injury and did not return. How long she will be out is not yet known.
Wolverine coach Kim Barnes Arico said Munger, who had scored 18 and 16 points in the last two games prior to Sunday, was going to have X-rays taken after the game, and wasn’t sure how long she would be out.
UPDATE (Feb. 1): Nicole Munger did not miss any games and was in the starting lineup for today’s game.
February 10, 2019: Starting point guard Amy Dilk (7.6 PPG, 4.4 APG) did not make the trip for the team’s game at Penn State today after suffering a knee injury in their previous contest. Nothing official has been said about her prognosis, but word is that x-rays and an MRI did not reveal any structural damage.
UPDATE (Feb. 12): Amy Dilk is “day-to-day” according to Michigan coach Kim Barnes Arico.
Last Thursday, during the first quarter against Nebraska, freshman guard Amy Dilk went down with a right knee injury while attempting a floater. She hasn’t played since, and the status of her injury remains uncertain. In high school, she injured the same knee twice and had surgery.
“She has a knee injury and she’s day-to-day right now,” said Michigan coach Kim Barnes Arico on Tuesday. “So, she’s out until she is back 100 percent.”
February 21, 2019: Amy Dilk returned to court for the Wolverines in their victory today over Rutgers, although she did not start and played just 16 minutes.
Milwaukee
December 31, 2018: Allazia Blockton, the reigning Big East player of the year who is averaging 16.5 PPG this season, sat out the Golden Eagles’ last game with an ankle injury. It appears her absence will not be a lengthy one.
Blockton’s availability remains unclear for Friday’s rematch. Kieger described her status as “day by day, minute by minute, hour by hour.”
Minnesota
October 23, 2018: Junior guard Gadiva Hubbard is out indefinitely after having surgery on her right foot. A returning starter for the Gophers, Hubbard had tallied 13.6 PPG in 34.9 MPG during the 2017-18 season.
Gophers guard Gadiva Hubbard had surgery on her right foot Friday and will be out indefinitely.
Coach Lindsay Whalen made the announcement at media availability Tuesday. She said no timetable has been set for Hubbard’s return, but that she hopes the 5-9 junior will be able to return this season.
February 9, 2019: Update on Gadiva Hubbard: she “likely” won’t play this season.
Coach Lindsay Whalen reiterated Friday that injured G Gadiva Hubbard, who had foot surgery Oct. 19, likely would not play this season and could redshirt.
Ole Miss
November 14, 2018: True freshman forward Gabby Crawford, who originally signed with and enrolled at Alabama, has now been ruled eligible after her transfer to Ole Miss. She was ranked in the top 100 in the 2018 recruiting class.
A surprise spark to that competitive edge came a couple hours before tipoff, as true freshman Gabby Crawford was cleared to play tonight after transferring from Alabama at the beginning of the semester. In her debut, the four-star recruit out of Munford, Tennessee, put up six points, three rebounds and two blocks.
“I don’t know if there’s a word for how big it was to have Gabby,” McPhee-McCuin said. “What’s so impressive about what Gabby did tonight is that she found out two hours before the game that she was gonna play. For the whole week, she didn’t even practice with us, she was on the scout team. For her to come and show the composure and the fight, I’m so pleased and happy for her. I know as a program, we were ecstatic.”
Mississippi State
September 24, 2018: Bulldogs head coach Vic Schaefer says the team is pursuing immediate eligibility waivers for two transfers: guard Andra Espinoza-Hunter (ex-Connecticut) and center Promise Taylor (ex–Ole Miss). His 2018-19 squad has already been bolstered with the addition of grad transfer Anriel Howard (ex–Texas A&M).
Ten of the 15 players on the roster averaged double-digit minutes on the trip to Italy. Guard Andra Espinoza-Hunter, a transfer from Connecticut, averaged 14.3 minutes per game, while center Promise Taylor, a transfer from Ole Miss, averaged 7.0 mpg. Schaefer said he isn’t sure if both players will be eligible to play this season. He said he isn’t sure when the NCAA will rule on the immediate eligibility of either player or both of them. Typically, transfers have to sit out a year when they transfer to another school.
Schaefer said MSU has to request a waiver from the NCAA for transfers. He said MSU has requested a waiver for Espinoza-Hunter but it hasn’t yet for Taylor, but it will.
“I would hope that they would be eligible,” Schaefer said. “I think each case has its own merits, so we’ll be anxious to see.”
October 6, 2018: With Vic Schaefer awaiting word on whether transfer center Promise Taylor would be eligible for 2018-19, another of the centers on his roster, Daphane White, has reportedly transferred out, electing to join the Mississippi Gulf Coast CC team. White was ranked #45 in the 2018 class, per espnW. This development, plus the transfer of junior forward Jonika Garvin to Palm Beach Atlantic University (D-II), opens up additional room for the Bulldogs’ 2019 recruiting class.
October 16, 2018: The Bulldogs gain even more room for their 2019 recruiting class with the departure of Jacaira “Iggy” Allen, a redshirt sophomore guard out of Pompano Beach, FL. She was espnW’s #77 player in the 2016 class. UPDATE (Jan. 7, 2019): Allen transferred to Miami (FL).
Mississippi State women’s basketball coach Vic Schaefer confirmed Monday night that redshirt sophomore guard Jacaira “Iggy” Allen is no longer with the program.
Allen, a 5-foot-10 guard from Pompano Beach, Florida (Dillard High School), sat out the 2017-18 season after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in the preseason. Schaefer said numerous times last season Allen looked great in the offseason and in the preseason and was a contender for a starting spot. He declined to comment on Allen’s decision to leave MSU.
November 7, 2018: The NCAA approved sophomore guard Andra Espinoza-Hunter‘s request for a transfer waiver, making her immediately eligible.
On Wednesday, the NCAA approved the waiver of Mississippi State sophomore guard Andra Espinoza-Hunter, making her immediately eligible to play this season.
“I am really happy for Andra,” Vic Schaefer said. “I think the right decision was made, and we are really appreciative to everyone involved who spent time on this. Andra has worked extremely hard and has been great since the day she stepped foot on campus. She has prepared herself for this moment and will be ready to step in right away.”
January 18, 2019: Sophomore forward Chloe Bibby will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a left knee injury in yesterday’s South Carolina game. She was the team’s fourth-leading scorer, averaging 12.6 PPG, and its leading three-point shooter, draining 36 of them at a 45 percent rate.

Bibby left Thursday night’s game early in the first quarter.
“Chloe has worked so hard to be where she is today,” Schaefer said. “My heart is broken for her. If I know Chloe, she will come back bigger, faster and stronger than ever before and will be tireless in her pursuit of excellence.”
Bibby played in 18 games for the Bulldogs this season, including Thursday’s contest. Entering the South Carolina game, she was MSU’s fourth-leading scorer, averaging 12.6 points per game. She led the squad with 36 three-pointers, making them at a 45.0 percent clip.
Missouri
November 21, 2018: Head coach Robin Pingeton has agreed to a four-year contract extension, through the 2024-25 season. Her base salary will be unchanged, but some other compensation items will see increases.
Under terms of the new deal, Pingeton’s base salary remains at $400,000, though her non-salary compensation for TV/radio shows, speaking appearances, apparel contracts and other matters increases from $75,000 to $100,000. Also, her annual fund managed by the university increases its yearly deposit from $75,000 to $100,000.
December 29, 2018: Cierra Porter has returned to the Tigers’ active roster and will play in the team’s game tomorrow. She had originally decided, prior to this season, to medically retire and not use her final year of eligibility. In her first three years at Mizzou, she had averaged 10.6 PPG and 7 RPG.
Mizzou Women’s Basketball re-added Cierra Porter to its active roster Saturday, as Porter has decided to return to the basketball court to complete her final year of collegiate eligibility. Porter will dress and be active for Mizzou’s game vs. Arkansas State on Dec. 30. Porter originally decided to step away from basketball in June.
“We are obviously very excited to welcome Cierra back,” said head coach Robin Pingeton. “She has had a very successful three years here, she brings great experience, and adds much needed depth to our post position. After allowing her knee to calm down and get some rest with some time away, Cierra started feeling pretty good again and wanted to see if she could make one last run at it.”
January 21, 2019: Freshman wing Grace Berg is transferring from Mizzou. She played in the first 19 games of this season, starting one of them and averaging 3.8 PPG in 12.7 MPG. UPDATE (Jan. 27): She’s transferring to Drake (press release).
“Mizzou wishes her well as she pursues other opportunities,” the school said in the statement.
February 24, 2019: Not yet officially confirmed, but it appears freshman guard Akira Levy (4.8 PPG) suffered a season-ending knee injury in Mizzou’s loss to Auburn today.
MU suffered another blow Sunday when freshman guard Akira Levy had to leave the game early due to injury and did not return. KTGR reported Levy was later seen with crutches.
“I can’t confirm, but I don’t think (the injury) looks good,” Pingeton said. “The feedback I got from the doctors, we’re pretty confident it’s probably pretty serious. I just feel sick for her.”
February 28, 2019: Now official that Akira Levy‘s knee injury was season-ending.
The Missouri women’s basketball team announced Thursday afternoon that Levy has an anterior cruciate ligament tear and a meniscus tear in her right knee. She’ll miss the remainder of the season, and her status for next season is still up in the air.
Montana
December 20, 2018: Arizona transfer Sammy Fatkin is now eligible to play at Montana with the NCAA granting her a waiver midseason. Sophia Stiles, another sophomore guard, appeared in an exhibition game for the Grizzlies (held unusually in mid-December), but it is “still uncertain whether she will use up a season of eligibility after undergoing knee surgery last winter.”
Sophomore guards Sammy Fatkin and Sophia Stiles made their first appearance of the season in Thursday’s exhibition win for the Lady Griz over visiting Montana Tech, 81-49. Both are unique athletes — Fatkin with her length and vision at point guard and Stiles with her rare quickness.
Schweyen confirmed that Fatkin, who played for the Arizona Wildcats last winter, will be available for league play after receiving her waiver from the NCAA. Stiles is a different story, still uncertain whether she will use up a season of eligibility after undergoing knee surgery last winter.
“Not since I’ve been here have I had the possibilities of that kind of depth on the perimeter,” Schweyen said. “We really don’t know right now (about Stiles). We still are going to have some talking to do after this.
“It’s still a question to see how Sophia’s knee responds after something like this. She really doesn’t have that many practices under her belt.”
December 29, 2018: Sammy Fatkin made her Montana debut today in the team’s 78-62 victory over Northern Arizona. She tallied seven points, four assists, and three steals in 18 minutes of action. Sophia Stiles did not play in the game, so it appears she will redshirt this season.
Everything was clicking, on both ends. It was when Fatkin, a transfer from Arizona, showed everything she can do for her new team. She scored it, she distributed it, she stole it. And she opened up a world in which not everything has to go through Johnston’s hands, and that’s a good thing.
“I’m excited to get Sam more and more comfortable,” said Schweyen. “It will allow us to do different things with Kenzie. We can move her around a little bit, and she won’t have to take the heat so much.”
Fatkin finished with seven points, four assists and three steals in 18 minutes.
January 21, 2019: Redshirt junior guard Taylor Goligoski (6.8 PPG, 3.5 RPG) will miss the rest of the season with an osteochondral lesion in her left leg. Also noted in the press release is that junior forward Madi Schoening is also out for the season with a foot injury. She played in just the first game this season and thus is eligible for a medical redshirt.
Montana redshirt junior guard Taylor Goligoski, who started the team’s first 13 games this year, will miss the remainder of the 2018-19 basketball season.
Goligoski has an osteochondral lesion in her left leg, meaning there is a dime-sized piece of cartilage at the end of a bone near her knee that is damaged and needs to be repaired.
Following surgery, Goligoski will undergo a three- to four-month recovery.
February 13, 2019: The Grizzlies have a total of four players—all guards—sidelined for the season with injuries.
The four Lady Griz sidelined by injuries include guards Sophia Stiles (knee), Taylor Goligoski (knee), Madi Schoening (foot) and Katie Mayhue (foot). Stiles is physically ready to play, but she elected to redshirt this winter because she was on the mend in October, November and part of December
Montana State
February 7, 2019: Senior forward Claire Lundberg, the team’s leading scorer (17 PPG), did not play in the Bobcats’ victory today over Eastern Washington (see box score). She suffered what appeared to be a knee injury in their previous game. There’s been no word yet on the exact injury or when she might return to the court.
February 11, 2019: The Bobcats announced that Claire Lundberg will miss the rest of the 2018-19 season with a torn ACL.
Montana State women’s basketball senior Claire Lundberg will miss the remainder of the 2019 season after suffering a torn ACL to her right knee during the second-half of MSU’s game against Northern Colorado on Feb. 4 in Shroyer Gym.
Lundberg’s injury was confirmed following an MRI on Friday afternoon. She met with MSU’s team doctor on Monday morning and will have surgery within the next few weeks.
“For any basketball player, it’s the news you never want to hear,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “You don’t want to see any kid have to go through this but it’s even more difficult being her senior year. Claire is such a fantastic kid and I know she will come back stronger than ever. As a team we will step-up for each other, step-up for her and bounce back from this setback.”
